Why use Gold Chloride in solution?
Gold Chloride is much easier to handle and measure when in solution.
The powder form rapidly absorbs moisture from the air, and becomes very sticky.
The red, gooey, Gold Chloride powder sticks to everything it touches — Glass, Ceramic, etc.

In Photography, as a print toning agent. (Gold Toning)
Used as a starting solution to form other gold compounds.
A precursor to the preparation of Ultra Pure Gold Metal.
Electroplating – both electroless and as an anode in an electric cell.
Cell body stains for brightfield and darkfield microscopy.
