4 – First Aid Measures

Ingestion: If swallowed, give plenty of water. Get medical attention if symptoms appear.

Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Rinse mouth with water

Skin or Eye Contact: Flush with plenty of water. Get medical attention if symptoms appear.

Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed
No data available

5 – Fire Fighting Measures

Fire: All Metal Powders are flammable. Dry chemical or carbon dioxide should be used on surrounding fire. Do not use water on fire where molten metal is present.

Extinguishing media
Suitable extinguishing media
Use water spray, alcohol-resistant foam, dry chemical or carbon dioxide.

Special hazards arising from the substance or mixture
Silver/silver oxides

Advice for firefighters
Wear self-contained breathing apparatus for firefighting if necessary.

Further information
No data available

6 – Accidental Release Measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures
Avoid dust formation. Avoid breathing vapours, mist or gas.
Environmental precautions
No special environmental precautions required.
Methods and materials for containment and cleaning up
Sweep up and shovel. Keep in suitable, closed containers for disposal

Wear protective equipment. Clean up in a way that doesn’t disperse the powder into the air.

7 – Handling and Storage

Precautions for safe handling
Further processing of solid materials may result in the formation of combustible dusts. The potential for combustible dust formation should be taken into consideration before additional processing occurs.
Provide appropriate exhaust ventilation at places where dust is formed.

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities
Keep container tightly closed in a dry and well-ventilated place.
Air sensitive. Store under inert gas. Keep in a dry place.
Storage class (TRGS 510): Non Combustible Solids

Store in a closed container. It does not absorb moisture from the air. It does react with Sulfur in the air, forming silver tarnish; Ag2S (Silver Sulfide).

8 – Physical and Chemical Properties

Appearance: Gray powder.

Odor: Odorless.

Solubility: Not soluble in water.

Theoretical Density: 10.50 grams/cc

Bulk Density: ~.50 grams/cc

pH: none – does not affect the pH of solutions.

Melting Point: 961°C (1,761°F).

Boiling Point: 2,212°C (4,013°F).

9 – Stability and Reactivity

Stability: Stable at room temperature in sealed containers.

Incompatibility: Avoid exposure to acids, acid fumes, acetylene, ammonia, and hydrogen peroxide.

Unusual Fire and Explosive Hazards: Silver powder is a moderate fire hazard when exposed to sparks or flame or by chemical reaction with C2H2, NH3, bromozide, CIF3, ethylenimene, H2SO4, tartaric acid.

Special Note: Silver Powder is especially reactive with Hydrogen Peroxide. It acts as a catalyst, producing Oxygen gas and Water in a violent manner.

10 – Toxicity

Acute oral toxicity: Toxicology not fully investigated.

Inhalation: Unknown. Avoid breathing all metal powders.
